10/11/07 » Croft » Brett already clocks up his first Formula Renault win
An accident during a wet qualifying session meant Brett had to start last for both races at Croft, a circuit which he had never visited before. By the time race one began the track had dried considerably. Some teams decided to start on slick tyres, Brett and the majority of grid chose to stay on wets. After one lap the race was stopped due to an incident at the first corner. At this time Brett decided to make the change to slick tyres whilst waiting for the race to restart on the grid, believing that the track would dry up enough by the end of the race. A number of other teams made the same decision, which proved to be worthwhile. After three very steady laps at the beginning of the race, Brett began picking off two or three cars per lap once the track began to dry and his tyres got up to temperature. With nothing to lose starting from the back of the grid, he took every risk he could to get to the front as soon as possible. It was a storming drive in difficult conditions, which saw him took the lead with four laps remaining, at which point he cruised to victory.
“We knew we had the potential to win races in Formula Renault, but we weren’t expecting to jump to the top so quickly. It looks very promising for next year’s championship.”
Unfortunately Brett didn’t have the same level of fortune in race two, when a front damper failure meant he could only fight his way to fourth. His two fantastic debut rounds in the class meant he claimed second in the BARC Formula Renault Winter Series. The team hope to go one better in the main championship in 2008.![]() |
