08/10/06 » Rockingham » Parris wins from pole after an all night rebuild by HS Motorsport

A wet track on Friday mornings testing and Brett began to set the pace straight away, until an electrical problem required the car to be towed back to the pits. This meant the team would miss the two following sessions, but the car was back out in the afternoon and once again went immediately fastest. Parris would go into the next days qualifying session as the sure favourite for pole.

A seven lap stint and the job was done. Brett was P1 and had a gap back to second position of over a second! The team waited in the pit lane, watching the timing screen with ever increasing confidence for race one. No other car came near to Brett’s time throughout the remainder of the session.

As they lined up on the grid, it was looking likely to be a runaway victory for Parris, considering his dominance in qualifying. But it wasn’t to be; an incident at the first corner saw Brett in the tyre wall, writing off two corners of the car. A painful blow for the team who were expecting such a comfortable win. Having rarely put a wheel wrong all year, Brett took full responsibility for the DNF, saying it was an unforced error on his part.

As soon as the car arrived back to the garage the team set about repairing the wreckage for race two. They would continue to work through the night to get the car out, an amazing effort and one that was much appreciated by Brett. “I can’t say how thankful I am to everyone involved at Hs Motorsport. A lot of teams would have given up at moments like that, but all year they’ve worked as hard as they can to give me a good car. I hope I can make their efforts worth while in race two.”

He set about it in the right way by snatching pole again on the last lap of the session, a big relief for everybody to see that the car was still capable of race winning pace after its shunt.

Brett went on to have a race long battle for the win, with positions changing in his favour around mid-distance, which is how they remained till the chequered flag. It was an emotional win for the team after such a massive effort to get the car rebuilt. With only one round now left at Snetterton, it was clear that second position in the championship was going to be up for grabs, a great credit to everyone involved
