15/10/06 » Snetterton » Brett clinches second in the championship at the final round

Going straight into qualifying one, Brett had missed the opportunity to test on the previous day due to work commitments with Ferrari in Monza. He still managed P2, less than a tenth of a second from pole. With a number of set up changes being made in time for race one, the team were confident they could find the small amount of speed they lacked.

Parris held his second position into the first corner, and set about reeling in the leader. Lap three saw the two swap positions twice, looking as if the race was shaping up to be a cracker! The following lap however put an end to the battle, when Brett made his move down the inside into turn one. His opponent had tried to hold his lead around the outside, which forced him into a spin. This left Parris to romp away to win with a five second advantage, his fourth victory in the last six rounds, setting the fastest lap on his way.

This would put him on pole for the last race of the season, and Brett was confident he could do the double, and end the season on a high. What followed proved to be a very difficult race for the HS Motorsport driver, who lost the lead away from the line, and became locked in a very close fight between the top three. Positions changed on numerous occasions, but Parris was unlucky through the backmarkers, and despite setting the fastest lap he would have to settle for a still very creditable second. This sealed his second position in the championship. A fantastic result considering this was his debut season in single seater racing, competing against 27 other drivers, most of them much more experience than himself. “I’d like to thank and congratulate everyone who’s been involved in my racing this season. I’ve had a fantastic amount of support from a lot of people. Thank you especially to Ian and Ness of HS Motorsport for the most enjoyable season of my career to date".
