26/08/07 » Silverstone International » Another pole, another win, and Brett’s third lap record in a row.

The Silverstone circuit in its International layout was new to everyone involved in the series, but it was Brett who picked it up quickest. He was fastest throughout Friday testing.

“I really enjoyed the International circuit. It’s very technical and a nice change from the National circuit we normally race on. We’ve had to adapt the set up of the car quite dramatically to suit it”.

Fridays work had paid off in qualifying, Brett had posted the pole position time on only his second lap out. He was half a second quicker than any other car, and sat in the pit lane for the remainder of the session whilst his rivals continued to try and beat his 100mph average lap speed.

He made the most of his pole position at the start of race 1, getting away well from the line and making it into the first corner in the lead, only to lose out in turn 2 dropping to second. Another mistake on the following lap and a quick trip on the grass meant he dropped another position, and now had a 3 second gap to make up. Lap by lap though he again began to demonstrate the outright speed he had in qualifying, quickly relegating the second place car and hunting down the leader. With one lap to go Brett had closed the gap enough to make his move, which he did through abbey and into bridge corner.

Brett and the team were ecstatic to have snatched the win with only 3 corners remaining, but their celebrations were short lived when the results of the race were amended and Brett was pushed back to P2 due to a yellow flag infringement. The team appealed the decision to no avail.

This meant Brett would start second for race 2, which is where he stayed for the majority of the race. He and the leader were lapping at a near identical pace, and the gap was never more than half a second. The pressure from Brett increased as the laps counted down, having set his car up to be quick at the end of the 20 minute stint. This pressure proved to be too much for the leading car. When Brett went to make a manoeuvre around the outside, the leading car locked up trying to out-brake him, which led to him colliding with a backmarker. This left Brett to cruise home to victory, increasing his in the championship to 13 points. He left the weekend having set the new Silverstone lap record, his third in the last 3 races, and his fourth in total.
